Nurses from Tel Aviv are training at BG Klinikum Duisburg
As part of the “Shalom Chaverut” aid initiative, BG Klinikum Duisburg is supporting the Tel Aviv Sourasky Medical Center (Ichilov Hospital) in setting up a burn unit consisting of a burn intensive care unit and an operating room.
To ensure that the new unit in Tel Aviv can be properly operated, those who will actually be working with the equipment and overseeing the procedures came to Duisburg: the nurses. Under the supervision of Dr. Detlef Schreier, the Chief Physician of the Peripheral Nerve Surgery Section at the Center for Severe Burn Injuries at the BG Klinikum, the first three nurses from Tel Aviv began training with their Duisburg colleagues in January 2025. Three more nurses from Ichilov Hospital are scheduled to follow in February.
The Israeli nurses were primarily stationed in the intensive care unit for burn patients at the BG Clinic in Duisburg to observe the procedures for the initial care of severely burned patients, the emergency room phase, and post-operative care involving the application of complex, specialized dressings. In addition, they were given tours of the departments that play a key role in the follow-up care of patients with severe burns (physical therapy, occupational therapy, and assistive device provision).
As the next step in setting up the burn unit in Tel Aviv, the Israel Country Office plans to bring Dr. Detlef Schreier to join his colleagues at Ichilov Hospital.
